ODYSSEY OF THE MIND STATE TOURNAMENT

 

GENERAL  COACHING  REMINDERS

 

  1. Tournament is at Ohio Valley University in Vienna, WV.  Directions to the university are on the website at http://wv.odysseyofthemind.org  Team registration is scheduled from 8:30-9a.m.  The coach can register the team.  This is to assure that each team has arrived.
  2. Make sure parents and spectators know the location of the competition site and the team’s performance schedule.  Get parents to transport the props.  Provide instructions on when and where to meet the team.  Have parents assigned to take care of the props after the competition.
  3. On tournament day, the coach needs to spend time with the team, and not on fixing last minute problems.  Enlist the parents to help.
  4. Make a check list of things that the team needs.
    • Props
    • Repair kit
    • Forms (including clarifications)
    • Snacks
    • Activities to keep them occupied as they wait to perform
  5. Visit the performance site with the team early to become familiar with the layout

of the site and the location of the entrances, exit, and Staging area.  The team needs to make any changes to their plan caused by the site set-up well before their performance time.

  1. Unpack and check all props before you go to the competition site.
  2. Get to the long-term competition site at least 20 minutes before your scheduled performance time (with team, props, etc.)
  3. Arrive at the spontaneous holding room at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled time.  Remember, only one coach can accompany the team to spontaneous.  No coaches, parents, etc. may observe the actual spontaneous competition.  Remind the team they may not reveal the spontaneous problem until after the competition.
