Mission Statement

The purpose of the West Virginia Odyssey of the Mind Program is to implement, sponsor, and regulate the Odyssey of the Mind Program tournament within the state of West Virginia in accordance with the guidelines of Odyssey of the Mind. West Virginia Odyssey of the Mind shall:

Foster creativity by providing an educational alternative which develops students' creative problem solving skills through experimentation, original thinking, and risk taking.

 

Encourage the development of cooperation, self-respect, sportsmanship, and the appreciation and understanding of others.

 

Provide a positive atmosphere where quality team work and competitive sportsmanship are exhibited.

 

Give students recognition and a sense of achievement. Reward creative and original thinking.

 

Create experiences that develop essential life/survival skills. Improve students’ communication skills.

 

Raise public awareness of creative problem solving and opportunities within the Odyssey of the Mind program.
